Hans-Hubert Schönzeller

“…Bruckner’s Requiem is an uncharac- teristic early work, written when he was in his twenty-fifth year. It needs a strong, enthusiastic performance, which is exactly what it receives here. The work is certainly spontaneous, with some fine pages, especially in the later sections. Bruckner places most of the burden on the chorus and less responsi- bility on the soloists, which suits the present team, for they are adequate rather than outstanding. The recording, however, is splendidly clear and atmos- pheric…”
