Doráti floats the strings of the Act I LOHENGRIN Prelude like a mist which deepens almost imperceptibly, the music swelling to a hardly bearable intensity. A vaultingly confident TANNHÄUSER Overture breaks the trance. Again he resists the temptation to to loosen up on tempi – his approach may be a little dated,
